Privacy Policy Speech to text

Privacy Policy for Speech to text — Effective Date: 2026-09-07

Speech to text turns what you say into written notes. Doing that means sending your recording to a third-party AI service, so this policy sets out plainly what is sent, who receives it, what it is used for, and what never leaves your device.

1. Who we are
Speech to text is published by Techlara. We can be reached at [email protected]. We run no server and hold no user accounts — there is nothing to sign up for and no profile to create.

2. What the app collects, and how

Voice recordings. When you tap the record button, the app records audio through your device’s microphone. When you stop, that recording is uploaded to OpenAI so it can be turned into text (see section 4). The audio file is deleted from your device as soon as the transcription comes back or the attempt fails. We never receive or store a copy.

The text of your notes. Transcriptions are saved on your device. When you use the Chat feature, your question and the text of your saved notes are sent together to OpenAI so the answer can be grounded in your own notes. When you record into a module, the transcript is sent a second time so it can be sorted into that module’s fields.

Nothing that identifies you. The app does not ask for and does not transmit your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location, advertising identifier, or any device identifier. Nothing sent to OpenAI is tied to an identity, because the app holds none.

No analytics, no advertising, no tracking. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no tracking technology of any kind. We do not build a profile of you and we do not share data with data brokers.

Stored on your device only. Your transcriptions, your modules, your token balance and your record of in-app purchases are stored in your device’s local storage and secure storage. They are not uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app deletes them.

3. What the data is used for
Voice recordings are used for exactly one purpose: producing the text of what you said. Note text is used for exactly one purpose: answering the question you asked about your own notes, or filling in the module fields you defined. That is the complete list. The data is not used for advertising, marketing, analytics, profiling, personalisation, or model training — not by us, and, per section 4, not by OpenAI.

4. The third-party AI service

Transcription and chat are performed by OpenAI, L.L.C. (San Francisco, California, USA), through the OpenAI API. Your recording and note text are transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connection to OpenAI’s servers, processed there, and the result is returned to your device.

OpenAI acts as our data processor. Under the OpenAI API data policies that govern this transmission:

  • Content submitted through the API is not used to train or improve OpenAI’s models, unless the account holder explicitly opts in to share it. We have not opted in.
  • Abuse-monitoring logs are retained for up to 30 days and then deleted, unless a longer period is required by law or is reasonably necessary to protect against harm.
  • OpenAI may use the content only to return your transcription or answer and to monitor for abuse. Our agreement with them permits no other use, which holds them to the same restriction this policy places on us.

We do not control OpenAI’s systems. Their handling of the data is additionally governed by their own privacy policy and their API data policy. We recommend reading both.

Your permission is required first. The app asks for your agreement, naming this data and this recipient, before anything is sent. Until you agree, nothing leaves your device. You can withdraw that agreement at any time under Settings → Data & AI; recording and chat then stop working, and everything you have already saved stays on your device and stays exportable.

5. Purchases
Token packs are sold as in-app purchases through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Your payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies — we never see your payment details, and we receive no personal data from them. The record of what you purchased is kept on your device.

6. Data security
Data in transit to OpenAI is encrypted with TLS. Data at rest on your device is held in the operating system’s app-private storage, with the free-usage flag in the platform’s secure storage (Keychain on iOS, encrypted preferences on Android). Because we operate no server and hold no copy of your content, there is no database of ours that could be breached.

7. Children’s privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

8. Your rights
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing on our side to access, correct, or delete. On your side you have full control:

  • Export everything as CSV, JSON or plain text from Settings → Export.
  • Delete individual notes in the History tab, or delete the app to remove all of it at once.
  • Withdraw your permission for AI processing at Settings → Data & AI.

For questions about data held by OpenAI during their 30-day retention window, contact OpenAI through the privacy links in section 4.

9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If a change alters what data is sent or who receives it, the in-app disclosure is re-shown and your agreement is asked for again — the previous agreement does not carry over.
